20/20 adoption disruption

friday night, i watched a 20/20 on adoption disruption.

adoption disruption is when parents who've adopted, break their contract with the adoption agency because they can't handle their adopted children who have aggressive behavior or psychological problems.

now, there is obvious judgement to these parents from society, because adoption is not only seen as a way for parents who are unable to have children to have a child, but also it's viewed as a humanitarian act because many of these children are from developing countries.

the main family (and many families in the special) adopted from Russia, and their children were older when they were adopted. but they had psychological problems and were aggressive. and they were deciding whether or not to disrupt their adoption.

the husband said concerning the monetary burden they have on these children for help, and the actual adoption, he said that yes he did buy children. now to me, this is ABSURD. every parent who plans on adopting knows there is a risk that the children might have psychological problems, coming from poor communities and an unhealthy home. this notion of buying the children is crazy to me. yes you pay the services of the adoption agency, but children, whether of not they are biologically yours or adopted, money will always be needed.

it's always about money. not even about the children they've wanted for so long. this example, i think, is another way to describe children as disposable. how they are products of a "deal."

here's a link to a little summary of 20/20:
