today in class, we watched a documentary about adolescents and how heavily the internet and technology influence their lives.
what i feel about this theory aka threat, is not about the documentary, but about the message.
yes i agree that cellphones eliminate intimacy and persona. i agree that it's rude to pick up a phone call right in the middle of a conversation, or when with a group of friends. i also think that myspace and facebook can consume someones lives, even taking up their studying time, and that's an obvious bad thing. this also takes away from actually having physical communication with someone, again eliminating intimacy. myspace and facebook are great ways to keep in touch with friends.
**facebook wasn't always for everyone. it was suppose to be a social network for college adults. and myspace used to be for bands to help them reach stardom or allowing people to enjoy their music.
no i don't agree that it's THAT dangerous. i think that all comes from how a child is raised, and how common sense can play a big part of it.. NO DON'T PUT YOUR ADDRESS on myspace, OR write down everything you're going to do, making it easy for stalkers to do it. a child should also assess what's important in life as well... safety or being popular? it's important for parents to speak or have communication with their children about what's important to them.
another thing i was thinking about today after watching this documentary, is that i've never had a trend start AFTER me because i've just reached adulthood, especially now that i'm 21 and have more experience than children. it's definitely an age thing, because as a product of this "fade" it's odd to see that the trend is evolving, which essentially is culture. myspace and facebook are becoming pop culture, and i've never experienced a pop culture transitition. i've come to find that my opinions ARE different, but since i've been there (not so extensively when people my age were using myspace, and especially facebook) i'm more understanding to this trend and why these children are doing it. i guess that's why i have strong opinions about this documentary.
good flick though! i can't wait to watch the rest. maybe my opinion will alter.
